In June, when Rick and I went to Wakarusa, Indiana for some warranty work we toured all around "Amish Country" admiring their handiwork. Because we had put our own, larger mattress in the motorhome, the bedspread that came with the RV never fit properly. Helen had altered it for us but it was still not right. We had decided to have a quilt custom made for us. However with the $$ exchange, as nice as the quilts were, we decided to purchase ours in St. Jacobs, Ontario's "Amish Country". We stopped on our way home and ordered a quilt at "The Quilt Shoppe" in St. Jacobs. Even though we ordered through a store, they are all handmade by the local Amish women. We took a cushion from the motorhome into the store with us and carefully selected the right fabric and pattern. We measured the bed and gave them the unusual size, because it was fitted around the night tables. We were told the quilt would be ready sometime in the fall.
We finally got a call from the shop telling us our quilt was ready for pick up. As it turned out the store was closing its doors forever in just a couple of weeks, so we were very fortunate to even get it. It was a lot less than we expected it to cost and it fit perfectly. It was tailored to fit our bed and matched perfectly. I felt like the puzzle pieces were coming together!
