Last night after Grouse Mountain, we headed back to the house to see Ian who had been working all day. He had only met Bill and Laura once before, briefly, in Toronto last year and we wanted to spend some time with him. The six adults and Makai walked up to the drive to enjoy a casual dinner at Marcello's, a popular Italian eatery. It was a good time with tasty food and lively conversation, after which we headed back to the motorhome, very tired from a full day of doing the "tourist thing".
Today, with more great weather in the forecast, we wanted to take Bill and Laura to explore The Drive more and to see Granville Island. As exhausted as we were yesterday, we slept well overnight but were up early again and on our way to get Karley and Makai by 10:00 AM. First we dropped the van off at the rental place, then we all piled into Karley's SUV (one person illegally in the back) and headed to Granville Island. Rick did some video taping as we walked along the waterfront with Makai strapped to Karley and the rest of us in tow. Then we went inside the market and browsed through the vendor's stalls before having a quick lunch. After some more browsing, we headed back to the house so Karley could feed and change Makai. Helen was flying into Vancouver at 3:30 PM and Bill and Laura wanted to walk The Drive so we left them there, while the four of us went to the airport. Rick and I had thought we would greet Helen as she came through the gates, while Karley and Makai were wandering around and then we would surprise her with them afterwards. Our intentions were good, however Helen came down the elevator, which brought her out right where Karley and Makai were "hiding". It seems she was doing the surprising! Anyway, it was a warm reunion and Helen was thrilled to meet her great-grandson for the very first time.
