We were up early this morning because we wanted to get through Portland and Seattle when the traffic wasn’t too heavy. After our experience on Friday, we hoped to shorten our ride a little to prevent the recurrence of our sore butts. Rick’s convinced that we just aren’t conditioned enough and he may be right but man it hurts to get conditioned! Anyway the ride through Portland was great, no slowdowns, nothing impeding us at all and we didn’t get into heavy traffic until we reached Tacoma. Unlike Friday though, we experienced no “stop and goes” and once we got on the 405, it was smooth sailing all the way.

Today we rode on Highway 9 N all the way to the Sumas border crossing which was deserted…a big surprise. We had figured that it would be jammed with returning Canadian weekenders but if there were any, they crossed the border earlier.

As we pulled into Aves Terrace, where Karley & Ian live, we were greeted by the MacLachlan family, along with Jay, going for a walk. We were pretty excited to see them all and I think the feeling was mutual. We still had a long ride, we still have sore butts but they are improving (or becoming permanently nerve damaged) and it was a great ride. The weather was perfect, ranging between 21C (69.8F) to 31C (87.8F) and the sky was clear blue all the way home.

Once we were back, Makai and Jay spent some time together reading a book in the motorhome.
