june 13a-07.jpgSo last night we parked ourselves in a noisy rest area and somehow we fell asleep quickly despite the sound of the trucks coming and going (which lasted all night long). We had difficulty staying asleep though and once we did, we were in no rush to get up and get going down the highway, so we dragged our butts this morning. Thank goodness for the time change because it meant that we were heading west once again by 8:15.

In Iowa the weather was perfect; sunny and warm, with nice, smooth highways and not super busy making for a great drive. However, we had checked the forecast for the states beyond and it looked like we might encounter some nasty weather in Nebraska. The further west we got, the more visible was the ridge of clouds we had seen in the distance and true to the forecast, Nebraska was experiencing some rain. We reached Omaha with dark, grey, low lying clouds above and by the time we hit the city they opened up blasting us with rain. By the looks of the vivid greens, the pools of water in the corn fields and the overflowing creeks, methinks the farmers are getting pretty tired of the precipitation.

We have stopped for the night at a just-off-the-highway park near Waco, (not to be confused with Texas) west of Lincoln off of the I-80. The rain was constant and tiring and having not had full hook-ups for so long I just wanted to use my dishwasher, get started on some laundry and have a long shower in the morning. (I can’t believe the things that make me happy!) Tomorrow we will leave here rested with an empty dishwasher, clean clothes and a windshield washed clear by Mother Nature….it doesn’t get much better than that! Laughing
