Recently I read an article that said that Vancouver, Canada tied with Vienna, Austria as the third best city out of 215 cities around the world to live in! In fact, several other Canadian cities did well in the rankings with Toronto at 15th place, Ottawa at 18th place, Montreal at 22nd place and Calgary at 24th place. Every Canadian city scored higher than any American city and Calgary was ranked as the cleanest city in the world, pretty impressive, with Ottawa placing 4th. Good on you Canada!
I am telling you this because when we first arrived in Vancouver three years ago we ended up putting a down payment on a condominium that was soon to be under construction. The scheduled construction completion was for the spring of 2007, yup that means now and at the time three years seemed so far away. Well the closing day is fast approaching and after much discussion we have decided to make British Columbia our new home province this year.
The condo is in a very desirable neighbourhood in downtown Vancouver, Yaletown, which I have written about many times when we have been there. It is close to everything; great shopping, the waterfront, Stanley Park, BC Place (Vancouver’s stadium) and wonderful dining opportunities. We are excited to be residents of the area but we will still be considered fulltimers because it will just become our home base. What we are not looking forward to is changing our car licenses, our driver’s licenses and our mailing address and as a result, we will have a busy time while we are in Ontario.
This is one last picture of the resort here in Houston where we are staying, Lakeview RV Resort. Though it may not be listed in the top 24 cities to live in, we have enjoyed our visit to Houston; we learned a lot, explored a lot and were made to feel welcome a lot. It is certainly a city worth revisiting in the future!
