We Truly Are Fortunate |

We made the decision to take today off of the sight seeing route however when we woke up to sunshine we thought we would venture into the outskirts of Cincinnati and find a Starbucks. A while ago, we discovered Tazo Chai Lattes made with soymilk from Starbucks and we treat ourselves to them on occasion. Today was such an occasion, however, unlike Tim Horton's at home, Starbucks are few and far between. Rick went on line and found one that would be easy to get to in Springdale, a suburb of Cincinnati. We wanted to see "Something's Gotta Give" with Jack Nicholson and Dianne Keaton so we thought we would take in a matinee as well. The movie was great and I highly recommend it, especially to the over 40 crowd. By the time it was over, we were hungry so we went to a wonderful Italian Bistro called Karlo's. After we finished our meal, it was after 7:00 and time to head back. The car wouldn't start!!! We had been having some trouble with it recently, occasionally not starting. The first time it happened we attributed it to bad fuel or a dirty fuel filter and after a couple of attempts, it would eventually go. Not this time, however. Finally we called VW Roadside assistance and waited for over an hour. When no one showed up we called CAA and after waiting another 45 minutes a tow truck arrived. By now it was almost 10:00. Initially, we were going to tow it to a VW dealer and either stay in a hotel nearby or rent a car and go back to the RV, however it was so late and we really wanted to go "home". So the tow truck driver towed us back to the park, about 35 minutes away and we figured that if the car wouldn't start in the morning, we would tow it to a garage ourselves. The tow truck driver was a Kentucky character with a real drawl. He told us he would often come over to the bars near where we are staying to sing karaoke. Apparently it was something he really enjoyed and no one knows him in these parts. He had recently had a string of bad luck. His Dad died, then his uncle passed away followed by him being hit by a car then his wife left him, cleaning out his bank account, all within a year. Now his grandma's furnace quit working, he was five months behind in his mortgage payments and the bank was closing in. He was going to court on February 23rd to get a settlement from the man that hit him and didn't understand why the bank couldn't wait until then, when he could buy the house outright. He felt that his luck was turning around though as his wife was talking to him again and might come back and he had the number of someone to call who might take over his mortgage allowing him to stay in his house until he goes to court. We got back to the campground at 11:00. Rick gave him a large tip and thanked him for his help as he left to find another stranded motorist. We gained a new appreciation for the life we live!
