Even though Arizona is in the Mountain Time Zone, the only part of the state that observes daylight savings time is the Navajo Reserve. The rest of the state doesn't "fall back or spring forward" so we had no time change at all yesterday when everyone in Ontario did. Today we have arrived in Las Vegas, which is in the Pacific Time Zone and they do observe the time change but we are still on the same time as yesterday which is three hours behind Ontario. We now watch the Ontario's 11:00 PM news at 8:00 PM because the 6:00 PM news is on way too early. As it was, we have still not adjusted to Mountain Time from Central so we have been going to bed early and we were up at 5:30 this morning. We were on the road by 8:30 AM, heading for Las Vegas.
Again, the drive was so scenic it was amazing and we enjoyed blue skies and temperatures ranging between 22C (72F) and 29C (85F). We took Highway 60 through a number of mountains and canyons. (Is there no end to Arizona's beauty?) There were fields of large saguaro cacti (the tall ones I expected to see) as well as all kinds of flowering cacti. We drove through a Joshua Tree forest, which gradually became more and more forested as we drove... such cool trees ! As we neared Nevada the colour of the soil changed from a russet to a grey. It was a spectacular day and I am still in awe of the beauty here.
