2004-04-22.jpgWhen we first woke up this morning the sky appeared to be overcast, however we soon learned that it was just foggy and once the sun came out, we enjoyed a beautiful day.

The Marathon Motorcoach factory is near here and we wanted to go there to see how they are made. At the Marathon facility they convert Prevost bus shells into high-end luxury motorhomes and they also sell previously owned ones. The sales rep who showed us around was extremely helpful at making us feel very welcome while we toured the factory and several coaches, new and used. Wow, they sure know how to build a Motorcoach!

From there we ventured into downtown Eugene to the historic market district to wander around. It is very quaint area with shops, restaurants and outdoor cafés everywhere. We visited the Nike Store and discovered that we were also in their museum. We learned that the co-founder was a runner from Oregon who poured rubber onto his wife's waffle iron, forging Nike's commitment to engineering innovative running shoes. Bill Bowerman, who was also a coach and Phil Knight, a fellow runner, have a very interesting history worthy of reading about. The name Nike came to another friend of Phil's in a dream; it is the name of a Greek winged goddess and means victory.

Eugene is a really pretty city with bike paths and parks everywhere and we are hoping to explore it some more over the next few days.
