Tuesdays and Wednesdays from May through to the end of October, there is a massive flea market here in Shipshewana and today going through it was on our agenda. Again we were up before dawn and we arrived at the flea market at 8:30, thinking we were early only to discover that it had already been open for an hour and a half. The place was alive with activity and there were throngs of people everywhere trying to find that special something or the bargain of a lifetime. After two and half hours we had barely covered half of it and we were ready to leave so we headed back to the motorhomes to unload our purchases before finding a place to go for lunch.

We drove into Goshen to The Old Bag Factory where we enjoyed a great, inexpensive meal outside on their patio before exploring the many small boutiques and shops. From there, we drove along the dozens of back roads admiring the perfectly manicured farms and tidy homesteads, mostly Amish-owned, evident from the clothing drying on the lines.

After stopping in Nappanee for coffee and a warm, caramel covered cinnamon bun (with no calories and only healthy ingredients...riiiight)(I am SO weak), we poked through a couple of the antique shops before driving back to Shipshewana. Our afternoon seemed so much longer than our morning probably because driving around the beautiful back country was much more peaceful than fighting the crowds at the market. Just the same, it was a great way to spend the day and we had fun everywhere we went.
