Today is Thanksgiving Day in the US, a day when it seems most families get together to kick off the beginning of a mad scramble towards Christmas. Initially it was supposed to be a time to give gratitude for ones good fortune, the harvest from a bountiful growing season and all the freedoms they enjoy. Thanks to commercialism, it has become a consumer driven holiday however it is still brings folks together and for that we should all be grateful.

While our friends prepare for “Turkey Day”, yours truly is heading to Winnipeg for a couple of days. “Winterpeg”, as many Canadians affectionately call it, is where the Great West Life Insurance head office is and I am flying in there to be video interviewed. I won’t get into details but it’s not a bad gig and after the interview, I’ll be enjoying a “spa day” where I will close my eyes and pretend that I am still in Desert Hot Springs.

Apparently the weather up north is less than desirable as my first flight to Calgary (where I’ll catch a connector to Winnipeg) has been delayed by 45 minutes due to ice. Yay! You can imagine how excited I am about that! Anyway, as I write this it is 1:54 PM, I am in the Palm Springs airport waiting for the plane to arrive and I will write again when I get to Manitoba. In the meantime, Happy Thanksgiving folks!

This is me getting ready to go through the security screening at Palm Springs airport dressed for colder weather including carrying my lined leather jacket.
