Visiting the Santa Monica Pier Print

mar 19-07.jpgYesterday the weather began to make a temperature decline, on its way back to more seasonal norms but still quite hot. We thought we’d use the opportunity make one last motorcycle ride into LA, actually to Santa Monica where we had planned to go last fall but ended up in Malibu (a wrong turn when we should have turned left instead of right). Fortunately we checked the forecast for there before we left so we dressed for the anticipated 20C (68F) in layers and our leather riding gear. Besides at 8:00 AM it was still cool in the desert so we needed layers, scarves and gloves to be warm here too.

As it turned out the high didn’t even get to 20C; it was cloudy and foggy, so we were really happy that we dressed for warmth. We wandered around the famous Santa Monica Pier looking for a breakfast place or at the least, a coffee vendor, and discovered that the area where The Coffee Bean was located was closed for a private function. Seafood just wasn’t going to cut it at 10:00 AM so after we took a couple of pictures, we headed further south.

The cloud coverage never dissipated and after stopping for a late breakfast/early lunch we decided to head home. Once we were inland, the temperature rose, the sky became blue and we began to remove our layers. We arrived home to a much warmer temperature of 36C (97F) (so much for cooler weather!) and were happy to get dressed in lighter garments. Though it would have been nice if the sun had been shining on the coast, at least we can say we’ve been to the Santa Monica Pier! Smile
