july 5-07.jpgWe are on the road heading south, then east to Rapid City, South Dakota. With a very delayed start; doctor’s appointments in Vancouver first thing, then having to drive to Mission and load up and of course saying goodbye to Makai and Monet, we weren’t officially on the road until 3:00 PM. Like a typical summer holiday period, the border crossing wasn’t quick either so we are currently in a truck stop near Wenatchee, Washington.

Rather than taking the interstate highways, at least for part of our trip, we opted to take a more scenic drive from Sumas; Highway 9 south to Highway 2 east through the mountains, hence the Wenatchee location. The drive was beautiful and so similar to the Canadian route through BC to the Okanagan Valley. Today we’ve seen the temperatures as high as 37°C (99°F) and as low as 25°C (77°F) and all under sunny skies. Summer really HAS arrived in the west at last!

Tomorrow we’ll make better tracks but at 9:30 tonight we were both too tired to proceed any further so the truck stop will do just fine. Besides with so much beautiful scenery to see, who wants to drive in the dark anyway? Because we had been heading in the opposite direction it wasn’t until we were pulling into the truck stop that I saw how beautiful the sky was.
