When we were in BC in 2004, the summer we spent on Vancouver Island, we first purchased our Honda Accord and registered it here in BC. That was when we first discovered just how complicated it was to get a vehicle licensed and insured. Prepared for that complication, I asked our insurance agent in Ontario to send the necessary letter from the insuring Ontario company to Karley’s house so it would be here for us when we arrived and it was. Last night we went to an Autoplan (the name of the BC government run licensing and insuring scheme) retailer to license and insure the car and trailer.
Under normal circumstances this process should have been pretty straight forward because all of our information from our previous registration should have been in the ICBC computer system. The key word here is should! Last night Anwar, the agent we are dealing with in Abbotsford, tried everything he could think of to get access to the info so we could get this simple task over with. It turns out some files were incorrectly linked and couldn’t be found without a phone call to ICBC and they were closed until this morning. So at 10:30 AM we headed back to Saxbee Insurance to complete what we started last night and now our car and trailer are officially licensed in BC. Next week the last two vehicles, the Moho and the motorcycle will be added to the list and all the steps to being legitimate BC residents will be finished at last. The money that we have saved on insuring the motorhome will more than cover the extra cost of the insurance on the other vehicles so the move is proving to be a good one.
Here Makai and Grampa are in deep conversation; I can only imagine what they are discussing......
