apr 1a-07.jpgToday is our 12th wedding anniversary and we are celebrating it by being “on the move” for the first time since October 14th, 2006. Of course we had a couple of side trips; one to Mission, BC at Christmas and one to Las Vegas in the New Year, but neither of those were in the Moho. It’s also Palm Sunday, April Fool’s Day, my late Granny’s birthday and Rick’s great-niece’s birthday (Happy 17th Birthday BethWink!).

This morning we woke up at 7:00 AM and walked for an hour. That gave us time to put our bed linens in a washing machine at the laundromat and hand out a few business cards along our route so our friends could stay in touch over the summer. We had a leisurely breakfast, finished putting things away, showered and said our goodbyes (and picked up our bedding from the dryer where we had put it after the washing earlier). We pulled out of the park at 10:45 AM and headed east, not in any rush and with no clear first-day destination in mind.

The temperature soared on our entire route up to as high as 35°C (95°F) depending on where we were. Fortunately the motorhome managed to stay comfortable with just the dashboard air-conditioning and we didn’t need to run the generator at all. We tossed around the idea of taking the more southern route, Highway 8, but instead settled on taking Highway 10, through Phoenix. On hindsight we would have been wiser to go with our first idea because we faced a backlog of traffic through the city. Ah well, we’ll know better next time.

As I write this it is past 7:00 PM (Arizona time), we have gotten through Phoenix and we have decided to stay in the parking lot of The Casino Del Sol in Tucson, perhaps even trying our anniversary luck at the slot machines for a while. With the exception of the traffic jam in Phoenix our drive was great; sunny warm and uneventful, just the way we like it especially for our first day back on the road.

I took this picture this morning while the windshield was still free of splattered insects as we were heading towards Quartzsite, Arizona.
