We enjoyed a sound sleep last night with no trains roaring by and we were in no rush to get going this morning. It was overcast, but warm and a good day to leisurely explore the area.
First we had lunch at a local restaurant where much to my surprise was a small table on the side, covered in a collection of angels! It must have been a sign because we had planned to go into Lafayette next, to the Linda Shafer Angel Shop, which I had read about in the travel guide. The artist/owner of the store had recently handed the reins of management over to her son John who cheerfully greeted us as we walked in the door. He and his sister Kelly and an assistant, Marianna, were a delight to talk to and from them we learned that all the beautiful paintings in the store were done by Linda. After spending a long time talking with our newfound "Angel friends", we bought a few items and headed back to Abbeville.
A local specialty in these parts is boiled crawfish and as luck would have it, there is a drive-through, boiled crawfish shop in Abbeville, Guidry's Crawfish, where we stopped to buy 3 lbs. to take home with us. They look like miniature lobster but are sweeter and we certainly enjoyed them along with a salad for dinner. Tomorrow we are going to a jam session featuring Cajun music with Betty and our fellow campers. We are liking it here!
