We have had so many perfect days since we left our old life and started this one that it is often hard to keep track of them. Some of our perfect days are sunny and warm, others rainy and cold, some lazy and uneventful, others busy with plenty of excitement. Really, any day that we can wake up unaided, are able to breathe on our own, savour the beauty around us and know that our loved ones are safe and healthy is a perfect day. Today was one of those days but to enhance the perfection, we had lots of sunshine and enjoyed a day filled with interesting strangers, good food and the splendour of nature.
We ventured into Victoria late this morning to explore the downtown area and go to The Dutch Bakery & Coffee Shop, a popular eatery that has been a local institution since 1956 where we met two local residents, each with fascinating stories of their lives . From there while we were looking for the post office, we discovered The Bastion Square Festival of the Arts, featuring local arts and craftspeople with their mix of jewellery, paintings, sculptures, stained glasswork and candles among others. There are some extremely talented people in these parts!
We also decided to visit the Butchart Gardens again to see the changes since we were there last. There were so many flowers that were in full bloom that parts of the gardens were almost unrecognizable with their new colours. After we wandered around for a while admiring the changes, we enjoyed "high tea" in The Dining Room restaurant. It is a tradition that we just wanted to experience and we were so well fed that there was no need for dinner. Yes, it was another perfect day!
