On Tuesday, Greg dropped by with a delicious, Campbell River gift; a large 20+lb. Spring Salmon and Rick recruited our neighbour Randy to help him de-bone and filet the fish. For his effort we gave him some fish then offered some to our other neighbours who all happily accepted and the rest we packaged up and placed in the freezer for later meals. What a wonderful gift!
Today we discovered that the outer skin of our kayak was a little cockeyed and Rick deflated it to try and straighten it. As it turned out the skin's zipper was completely misaligned and it was impossible to correct it so we went into Campbell River to see if it could be fixed. We took it back to the store and they promptly replaced it with another one that is perfect.
From there we walked along "Shopper's Row" where we browsed through some of the shops varying from travel stores to clothiers and sporting good stores to bargain shops. We stopped in the Ridgerider, a western wear store where the owners filled us in with the best places to eat and the best places to go in the area. They were originally from Port Hardy and moved here several years ago to open their store, which has more inventory per square foot than any store I have ever seen. Their customers come from all over the world and every walk of life. From them we learned that there are more horses per capita here on Vancouver Island than any place in Canada. One thing we can say with absolute certainty...the people in Campbell River are very friendly and kind!
