When Rick wired and installed the towing plate on the car in Metchosin, he had everything working perfectly. But after sitting for a month in Campbell River, the brake lights on the car, when it was being towed, were malfunctioning. We drove over here without much difficulty but he needed to fix the problem before we leave. Fortunately, he is adept mechanically, and he was able to diagnose the problem, however we needed to get a new light-wiring plug, so today the hunt was on. After exhausting every possible resource in Tofino, we drove to Ucluelet to see if it was available there. Luckily, he found the needed part at the first place we stopped at so we decided to stay and hike on some of the Wild Pacific Trail there.
This fabulous trail winds along the rugged coast overlooking Barkley Sound and the Broken Islands of the Pacific Rim National Park and currently is made up of several segments totalling 8.5 km. We took the first section, which covers only 2.5 km. and were awed by the beautiful, panoramic views. There was a great deal of fog here today, but it was rolling in and out constantly, so sometimes we could see very little and other times everything was quite clear. Every turn on the winding trail treated us to a different view and there was much to see when the fog wasn't impairing our vision. This wonderful trail is managed by a group of generous volunteers and they are planning to eventually continue the development of it into the Pacific Rim National Park. We met some fellow hikers on the trail from Minneapolis who were as awestruck as we were and it was nice to hear them telling us how much they were enjoying their visit here (their first). We love this country of ours!
